Description:
This data file set consists of one file generated for a descriptive epidemiologic study of cancer versus non-cancer deaths of residents of Lamar County, Mississippi, the location of a large salt dome by Donna Cragle. The salt dome, now called the Salmon Site, was previously known as the Tatum Dome Test Site.
This study was conducted to determine if there was an association between usual residence near the Salmon Site and death due to cancer. The analysis file contains demographic information on 2,185 residents who died between 1980 and 1991. As shown on the summary death table, there were 562 cancer deaths and 1,623 deaths due to other causes.
The analysis file, TDBSRA01_d1 (ANAL0997), includes demographic variables, cause of death (ICD9), and distance of usual residence from the Salmon Site.
