Effluent Database for Nuclear Power Plants
Nuclear power plants submit annual radiological effluent reports to the NRC as required by 10 CFR 50.36a. The individual licensee annual effluent reports beginning in 2005 are available here. For prior years, the individual plant reports are available through ADAMS Public Library and the NRC Public Document Room.
For 1972 – 1979, the NRC prepared and published an annual effluent summary report for all operating nuclear power plants under various NUREG identifiers. These annual summary reports are not available in an electronic format, but are available through the NRC Public Document Room.
For 1980 - 1993, the NRC published the annual summary reports as NUREG/CR-2907, “Radioactive Materials Released from Nuclear Power Plants”. These reports are available through the US Department of Energy, at the Office of Scientific and Technical Information.
For 1994 to 2006, the preparation and publishing of the summary reports was discontinued; however, the individual plant effluent release data are available from each licensee’s annual report which are available through the ADAMS Public Library.
In addition to the annual summary reports, beginning in 1998, data from these individual plant effluent reports has been extracted and put into this electronic database. A guide describing how to use this database and a list and explanation of the entry process can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions.
In 2009, the NRC resumed publication of the annual effluent summary reports as NUREG/CR-2907, “Radioactive Effluents from Nuclear Power Plants.” These reports are available at https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/nuregs/contract/cr2907/.
